和外國朋友聊完天後除了Bye! (拜拜！)或是Good bye! (再見！)外，還有其他實用又自然的道別法嗎？當然有！(…老師都有會自問自答的症狀) 這次我們就來看一些簡單又好用的例子：Here are some expressions that we might use to end a conversation:
- Okay, I’m out of here. 好啦，我要閃人了。
(下班時很好用的一句話)
- Is that the time? I’ve gotta go. 已經…點啦？我得走了。
現代人生活不可或缺的用品之一應該就是mobile phone (手機, =cell phone)吧？這次我們就來學一些實用的手機英文！
首先我們來看一下常見的styles (款式)：
1. bar phones 直立式手機
2. flip phones 掀蓋式手機
3. slider phones 滑蓋式手機

不只在發音上，alone跟along的意思很多人也都搞不清楚。

alone是形容詞或副詞，我們可以說I'm alone 我自己一個人；或I live alone. 我自己一個人住

Many people all around the world are looking forward to a white Christmas. But here is Taiwan the only snow you will be able to see is the snow on the mountains. However, the festive season will still be exciting. Children look forward to presents from Santa Claus. And having fun decoratingthe Christmas tree. It can be a fun time for everyone. Music is in the air and you can hear Christmas carolseverywhere.

IELTS(雅思)和TOEFL(托福)寫作的最大不同點在於IELTS寫作的Task 1。在這個項目同學有20分鐘的時間，寫出約150字描述圖表重點。這個圖表可能會是一個table(一覽表)、bar chart(柱狀圖)、pie chart(圓餅圖)或是line graph(曲線圖)等。

其實比起Task 2的論述式寫作，Task1反而是較可輕易拿高分的項目。只要把一些基本的單字記起來，寫作時以不同詞性變化(如形容詞變副詞)，就可以輕鬆用有深度的單字精準描述圖表內容。這次我們先看看數據上升及下降的說法，同學要特別注意不同詞性的用法：
上升 to rise / a rise, to increase / an increase, to go up, to climb / a climb

marry這個詞也是我常常在上課時聽到的錯誤用法
marry是及物動詞，請不要把它想成｢結婚｣，而要想成是｢嫁、娶｣。
例：Shemarried himfor his money. 她為了他的財產而嫁給他。
I'm going tomarry hernext year. 我明年要娶她。

Do you believe in fortune tellers? 你相信算命師嗎？常常在我們盡了力，但卻還是事與願違，此時很多人會自怨自艾，但有人卻藉助一些方法而知天命，然後做最好的生涯規劃！這時候就會求助於各種算命師了去算一下自己的命運！
算命(fortune telling)的方法有百百種，例如：占星術(astrology)、八字(numerology)、塔羅牌(tarot card reading)。當然結果就是：信者恆信，不信者恆不信了！
但我個人覺得，算命的話僅供參考，一切還是操之在我！當然第一要件就是一定要盡人事，因為〝天助自助者〞---God helps those who help themselves!

前幾個星期在台北坐MRT(捷運)時，在escalator(電扶梯)上看到這個標誌：Stand Firm 站穩踏階。
其實Stand Firm較常用於refuse to abandon one’s opinion or belief and be determined，當你堅定不移、不讓步、不改變自己主張、堅持自己立場時，you stand firm. 所以雖然stand firm可直譯為”站穩”，但其實大多時候是指”站穩立場”。
我們來看一些例子吧：
